Our Story

JENSO Upholstering Inc. was established in 1991 out of our walkout basement in Oakville, Ontario. The business was founded by the patriarch of the Jeffers family, Eastern Jeffers. When Eastern was choosing a name for the business, he had his family in mind: J for Jeffers, E for Eastern, N for Norma, S for Suzette, and O for Otis.
Eastern was a go-getter and a risk-taker. He didn’t want to work for others and was determined to forge his own path, creating a legacy for his family. With a background in tailoring in the Caribbean, transitioning to reupholstery was a natural move for him. Though he initially tried his hand at welding when he first arrived in Canada, it wasn’t for him. Before starting JENSO, Eastern co-owned an upholstery shop in Scarborough in the early '80s with a business partner, but that venture didn’t succeed.

In 1995, Eastern decided to open a brick-and-mortar location on Kerr Street in Oakville, Ontario, and that location still serves our community today. The majority of JENSO’s client base comes from word-of-mouth and our prime location in the area.
Sadly, in 2007, we lost Eastern to a cancerous brain tumor. This was a difficult time, but fortunately, Norma Jeffers was already deeply involved in the day-to-day operations. We’ve been blessed with an amazing team, whom we also consider family.

In 2014, Eastern’s youngest daughter, Suzette, also known as Shar-J, joined the business and has since become the face of JENSO. With her interior design background and artistic touch, the future holds nothing but growth for the company. Suzette is also an artist, and her creative energy is palpable, especially from the gallery of artwork in the showroom. She looks forward to making her mark in the Greater Toronto Area.
